The confined space is the bottom line when it comes to the human need for shelter, for survival against nature, for solitude among people or against people or for defining the different functions in our lives. Spaces work on all levels, rooms, houses, countries or worlds. The spaces differs but is ever-present. Cocoon is a piece of furniture that's define a new space. Micasa Lab is proud to present the Cocoon 1. It is a new type of furniture that transcends the border between object and space and challenges how we perceive furniture. It’s an ongoing research project that are aiming to create new spaces.

By adding different modules, the functions of the Cocoon 1 can be changed, for example adding sleeping modules or storage modules. The variety of modules and therefore functions is vast, there are even modules designed to enable basic cooking inside the Cocoon 1. Batteries not only allow the stove to operate, but also power Wi-Fi and the media module. It is spacious enough to create a room, but not so large that it will not fit into one. The Cocoon 1 comes with a set of attachments offering a variety of placing – be it on the floor, elevated or attached to the ceiling.

The Cocoon 1 is completely transparent and measures 180 cm in diameter.

An addition is the net. When using the Cocoon 1 outdoors, the net enables the Cocoon 1 to be hung in trees, on buildings or even as a cluster of other Cocoons.

The sturdy nylon net enables the user to relax in total solitude, gently swinging in a location of choice.

Every Cocoon 1 comes with three basic modules: the Foundation 360 and two Pillow 90 modules.

These basic modules can be combined or replaced with other modules for customization. On top of The Foundation 360, the Pillow 90 can be combined with the Storage 45, Storage 90, or Storage 180. The pillows come as 45, 90, or 180.

For outdoor use, The Kitchen 90 and the Water 90 can be installed. The Kitchen 90 comes with a power pack which has enough power for 40 hours of light or 20 hours of light and 30 minutes of cooking. The Water 90 needs to be combined with Foundation 360 which has a pipe for outflow.

Both the Storage 90 and the Storage 180 can also be fitted with the Power Pack.

The Cocoon 1 can also function on water by adding a Foundation Pb (a lead weight built into the standard foundation), which keeps it straight on water.
